Aventura is a medium-sized planned, suburban city in Miami-Dade County. it has about nine neighborhoods and is the 80th largest community in the state. Surrounding areas  to Aventura include Hallandale Beach, Sunny Isles Beach, North Miami Beach and others. It has a wonderful tropical monsoon climate with warm winters and hot humid summers. A fairly large portion of this city’s population is seasonal, making it a more peaceful community in the off season. As a popular tourist destination a good part of the local economy is based on the tourism industry. Public transportation comes in the form of the Aventura Expresswa shuttle bus, Metrorail and Metromover. Average commute time for residents of Aventura is approximately 32 minutes. Approximately 51% of all adults in the city have four-year degrees or higher. It is a semi-ethnically diverse city, though most residents are of European descent. Over 46% of all city residents are foreign born. English is the primary language followed by Spanish, Hebrew and others. The city’s name is derived from the Spanish word for adventure. It has a council/manager form of city government and the city motto is “City of Excellence.”

Development of the city began in the early 1970s. The city was incorporated in November of 1995 and the Police Department was established in 1997. In 2000, the median household income in the city was $$44,562, the median family income was $59,507 and the per capita income was $41,902. In 2010, the population was 35,762, the population density was 13,487.2 people per square mile and the per capita income was $46,137. By 2013, the estimated median household income was $58,502 and the estimated per capita income was $47,159. In the same year the estimated median house or condo value was $275,342, the mean housing price on all units was $282,366 and the median gross rent was $1522. It is a predominantly white-collar city and nearly 95% of the workforce hold white-collar positions. Telecommuting is common and over 11% of the workforce works from home. It is a semi-wealthy city when compared to state and national economic statistics.

The city is part of the Miami-Dade County Public School System and is home to the charter school, Aventura City of Excellence School. It is also home to the Aventura Mall, a 24,000,000 square foot indoor shopping center. There are also a number of outdoor or strip malls in the city. Also in this wonderful city is the Turnberry Isle Resort and the Turnberry Golf Course. The golf course features a three-mile walking path that overlooks lakes, high-rises, beautiful landscaping and the breathtaking Atlantic Ocean.
