Brickell is an urban neighborhood of Miami, Florida. Brickell is the major financial district of both the city of Miami and all of Southern Florida as well and houses the core or the investment, financial and banking sectors . It is among Miami’s most densely populated neighborhoods. It is located south of the Central Business District and has three sub-districts of its own, Brickell Key, South Brickell and West Brickell. It is a pedestrian friendly neighborhood where many residents choose not to have a private vehicle. Instead, they rely on public transportation, taxis, bicycles and their own two feet. It is a high-rise residential neighborhood featuring luxury condominiums and upscale apartments. There are a number of single family homes from the early 1900s in South Brickell. They are the few single family homes in the predominantly high-rise neighborhood of Brickell. The neighborhood is sometimes known as the “Manhattan of the South.” The neighborhood is also home to several foreign consulates, like the French Consulate, the Brazilian Consulate, the Peruvian Consulate, the Swiss Consulate and others. It is a neighborhood that works hard by day and plays hard by night.

The area was settled by pioneers in the 1830s and it was quickly incorporated into Miami in 1896. By the early 1900s portions of it were known as “Millionare Row.” However, the historic mansions were replaced over time by high-rise apartments, condominiums and office towers predominantly in the 1970s. Today, residents are known as Brickellites. The neighborhood spans 1.9 square miles, the 2010 population was 27,776 and the population density was 37,622 people per square mile. In 2014, the population was 32,489 and the population density was 27,302 people per square mile. It is an affluent neighborhood where in 2014, the average household income was $125,500.

Brickell is part of the Miami-Dade County Public School District. Public schools within the area are Southside, Adam Merritt and Riverside Elementary Schools. Local private schools include Gordan Day School, Prima Casa Montessori School and First Presbyterian International Christian School and others. Parks in Brickell include, but are not limited to the Sampson Park Hammock and Alice Wainwright Park nature preserves, as well as Brickell Park, Southside Parkand others. Historic places in Brickell, The Maimi Circle Indian Burial Ground, Fire Station #4 built in 1922, St. Jude Catholic Church built in 1946 and Southside School built in 1900. Brickell is home to some of Miami’s largest skyscrapers like Florida’s tallest building, the Four Seasons Hotel as well as unique bits of architecture like the Icon Brickell complex, which is a three towered urban development center.
