Coral Gables is a medium-sized city in Miami-Dade County, Florida. It is a coastal city located southeast of Downtown Miami. It is officially known as the city of Coral Gables and it has approximately 13 neighborhoods and is the 62nd largest community in the state. It is a college town and home to the University of Miami and over 62% of all adult residents in the city have four-year or higher degrees. It is ethnically diverse, its first language Spanish followed by English. The community is nautical in nature with a colorful maritime history, gorgeous ocean front scenery and countless waterfront activities. It is a pedestrian friendly community and has a council/manager style of city government. The city has earned the nicknames “The City Beautiful” and “The Gables.” Public transportation in the city is provided by a free trolley service, Metrobus, and Miami Metrorail. Coral Gables  has six sister cities scattered across the globe, including Pauca, Italy; Cartagena, Columbia ; Quebec City, Canada and others

The city was developed by John Merrick in the 1920s. It was among the first planned communities and actually pre-dates gated communities. The city was planned and developed with Mediterranean Revival Style architecture. Merrick also donated land and money for the construction of the Gable’s Congregational Church. Merrick designed the commercial district to be limited to four blocks wide and two miles long, so that it remained easily walkable. The community was incorporated in April of 1925. In 1925, the community was also chosen as the home of Miami University and the city continued to grow. During WWII, it was home and training area for countless Navy men serving as pilots and mechanics.

Today it is a wealthy community in comparison to state and national economic statistics. It is a decidedly white-collar community where nearly 96% of all workers hold white-collar positions. Almost 7.75% of the workforce works from home via telecommuting and small businesses. The city spans 37.2 square miles, 13.1 square miles of land area and 24.1 square miles of water. In 2013, the estimated median household income was $88,152, the estimated per capita income was $55,163. In the same year the mean housing price on all housing units was $282,366 and the median gross rent was $1,320. In 2014, the population had reached 51,227 and the population density was 3,901 people per square mile.

Public education in the community is provided by the schools of the Miami-Dade Public School District. There are many schools, public, private and charter in the city. Among these schools are Coral Gables Senior High School, Ponce de Leon Middle School, St. Theresa Catholic School, Coral Gables Elementary and others. There is a branch of the Miami-Dade Public Library  in Coral Gables. Places of interest include the Coral Gables Museum, Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden, the Village of Merrick Park shopping mall and many more.
