Davie, Florida is one of the most populous “towns” in the state and the 3rd most populous “town” in the United States. It is a part of the Miami Metropolitan Area, has approximately 16 neighborhoods and is the 24th largest community in the state. Over 33% of adults in Davie have four-year degrees or better. It is a very ethnically diverse community and common ancestries among residents include, but are not limited to Italian, Irish, German, Polish and others. Over 27% of all residents are foreign born and English is the primary language in the community.

The town was settled in 1909 and prior to development most of the area was swampland. The community of Davie was first known as Zona and was founded by Tamara Toussaint and Jake Tannebaum. Robert Parsell Davie, a developer for the area built a school in the community and the people renamed the town out of gratitude for his generosity. It was not officially incorporated as  town until September of 1963. Davie has always had a reputation for being a “western” town with wild west architecture. It even had an attraction called  “Pioneer City” which is a  western theme park, which is still in operation today.

The city town spans 35.7 square miles, 34.9 square miles of land area and .8 square miles of water. It is an upper-middle income community compared to state and federal economic statistics. It is predominantly a white-collar community where over 86% of the local workforce is white-collar. In 2010, the population was 91,992 and the population density was 2,636.8 people per square mile. In the same year the median household income was $47,014, the median family income was $56,290 and the per capita income was $30,340. By 2013, the estimated median household income was $59,344 and the estimated per capita was $32,778. In the same year, the median house or condo value in the town was $169,100, the mean price on all housing units was $234,961 and the median gross rent was $1,131. In 2014, the population was 98,895 and the population density was 2,958 people per square mile.

Public education is provided by the schools of the Broward County School District. There are a number of schools, public, private and charter in Davie. Among these is the Charter School of Excellence, Fox Trail Elementary School, Nova Middle School, Western High School and others. Among the historic buildings in Davie there is the Old Davie School designed by architect August Gieger. It was the first permanent school built in the Everglades and opened its doors in 1918.  Another historic building is the Veille House, built in 1912.  It is the oldest surviving residential structure in the town. The town has a number of open green spaces and parks as well as a system of 165 miles of trails perfect for hiking, biking and horseback riding.
